How much does a mural cost?

Mural for Mod Pizza, Enumclaw, Washington. Just out side Seattle.

A mural’s cost depends on a few factors.

Ask yourself what size, wall material and style are you aiming for?

Do you need an artist to design the artwork?

Is the mural inside or outside? If an artwork is already designed and is relatively simple in style and is indoors, your mural will be in the $500-$1300 range. If your mural needs to be designed, is outside, is on a rough material and covers a massive amount of square footage, your mural could cost $2000 to $30,000 or more. It all depends on the details. Some muralists love creating original artwork and some love installing artwork that is already completed. The design process alone can take a long time.

If your mural is residential or commercial, that can factor in to how long it will take to design your mural. Brands often need to protect their guidelines by installing artwork that lines up with the rest of their deployed brand package.

I typically work in the Pacific Northwest but sometimes I’ll be asked to install work thousands of miles away and that will add into the cost as well.

Other factors to consider are ladders, scissor lifts and installation times. Outdoor murals often need to be projected at night which can complicate the process. Indoor murals can be penciled in during the day if the windows can be blocked out using butcher paper.
